Surgical Applications

spinal 1

STOP PILOT/TAP HOLE BONE BLEEDING
Normal bone healing and fusion are critical in spinal procedures. But often, bleeding from cut bones or pilot/tap holes can disrupt line of sight, increase OR time, and can negatively impact healing. Enter HemaQuell Resorbable Bone Hemostat, which fills in cut bone surfaces and provides virtually immediate hemostasis with a ready-to-use application. And because it is completely resorbed in just 2 - 7 days, it allows normal healing without interference. For use during spinal stabilization/interbody fusion (pedicle and facet screw placements), foraminotomies and bone grafts.

cardiothoracic 1

IMPROVE STERNAL FUSION AND HEALING
For a procedure as precise as cardiothoracic surgery, attention to details is paramount. Oozing from the cut sternum interferes with visualization, can increase OR time, and can negatively impact healing in cardiothoracic procedures such as sternotomies. HemaQuell Resorbable Bone Hemostat provides virtually instant hemostasis by filling in cut bone surfaces with a simple, ready-to-use application. And because it is completely resorbed in just 2 - 7 days, it allows the sternum to fuse and heal normally without interference.

orthopedic 1

CONTROL OOZING BONE
When bones are cut or shaved during orthopedic procedures, the oozing blood can impair the surgeon’s line of sight, prolong the operation, and negatively impact healing. HemaQuell Resorbable Bone Hemostat provides virtually immediate hemostasis by filling in cut bone surfaces with a simple, ready-to-use application. And because it is completely resorbed in just 2 - 7 days, it allows bone to heal normally without interference. For use during foot and ankle, joint replacements, trauma and bone graft procedures.

cranial 1

VIRTUALLY IMMEDIATE CRANIAL HEMOSTASIS
Neurosurgical procedures require intensely precise hands—but what happens when oozing bone impairs the line of sight, disrupts and prolongs the procedure, and can potentially affect outcomes? HemaQuell Resorbable Bone Hemostat provides virtually instant hemostasis on cranial surfaces by filling in cut bone surfaces with a simple, ready-to-use application. And because it is completely resorbed in just 2 to 7 days, it allows bone to fuse and heal normally without interference. For use during craniotomies, facial reconstructions/implants, trauma and more.

podiatry 1

IMPROVED VISUALIZATION AND HEALING
Oozing from bones that are cut or shaved during podiatry procedures can impair the surgeon’s line of sight, disrupt and prolong the procedure, and impair bone fusion and healing. HemaQuell Resorbable Bone Hemostat fills in cut bone surfaces and provides virtually immediate hemostasis with a ready-to-use application. And because it is completely resorbed in just 2 - 7 days, it allows the bone to fuse and heal normally without interference.

Indications & Instructions

Description

HemaQuell Hemostat is a resorbable, water-soluble surgical implant material which is used for the control of bleeding from bone surfaces. It is a sterile blend of alkylene oxide copolymers.

Indications

HemaQuell Hemostat is indicated as an implant for the control of bleeding from bone surfaces.

Mode of Action

HemaQuell Hemostat achieves hemostasis by way of tamponade, physically blocking exposed bleeding bone surfaces with a coating of a malleable barrier that is resorbed in 2-7 days.

Contraindications

  • Surgical sites that are infected
  • The use of the product to provide structural support to bone or to stop bone growth

Warnings and Precautions

  • HemaQuell Hemostat is provided sterile for single use only. Do not resterilize.
  • Discard open, unused or damaged packages.
  • Protect the product from heat. Store at 0 to 32 degrees Celsius (32 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit).

Instructions for Use

  1. HemaQuell Hemostat is ready for use as delivered. It will soften slightly if manipulated by hand.
  2. To extrude HemaQuell Hemostat from the applicator tube, remove the protective cap, then rotate the wheel at the base of the tube clockwise to expose the desired amount of product. Do not rotate the wheel past the built-in stop or try to force the base out of the tube.
  3. Apply HemaQuell Hemostat directly to the bleeding bone surface using a crayonlike application in sufficient quantity to control bleeding. If necessary, reinforce anchorage by pressing the hemostat into the defect.
  4. Alternatively, extrude HemaQuell Hemostat from the tube, mold as needed and apply by hand or with a surgical instrument.
  5. Since HemaQuell Hemostat is water-soluble, aggressive irrigation at the application site may lead to breakthrough bleeding and reapplication may be required.
  6. Depending on the size of the defect and the porosity of the bone, multiple tubes may be required.

Sterility

HemaQuell Hemostat is sterilized via gamma irradiation. It is provided sterile in a clear envelope for delivery into a sterile field prior to use.
